Cedar Cliff takes Susquehanna to school......

OK, this was the only game in town on the East Shore with the expectations of everyone watching a hard fought battle....  Cedar Cliff came with the veteran players and one of the top coaches in PA, Coach Jim Rowe...   Susquehanna has a world of talented youthful players and a couple of vets that have played on some pretty good Susquehanna teams.....  Unfortunately, this was never even a close game.....

Cedar Cliff put up points quick fast and in a hurry taking a 17 - 9 lead behind the sharp shooting of Will Hopkins, Logan Stumpf and Walter Martinez....

Ex Susquehanna player Colton Lewis had a couple of big blocks that ignited the fast break offense as The Colts did a great job swinging the ball around to find the open guys ending the first quarter up 19 - 11...

As the second quarter began, both teams went back and forth and after a put back by high flying Shaq Brim, Cedar Cliff called timeout being up 27 - 19...  During that timeout, Coach Rowe ripped into his players for the sloppy play and lack of focus....  That's all that needed to be said as CC went on a 9 - 2 run to finish the half up by 15 points, 36 - 21....

Logan Stumpf ready for action
After halftime, CC slapped on their famous 1-3-1 half court defense and it really had The Indians looking puzzled and unprepared for it....  Had it not been for CC trying to make so many fancy plays, they may have been up by 25 points early in the 3rd...

Hopkins comes out and hits an uncontested 3 pointer and immediately after a steal, 6'6 combo guard Christo Majok threw down a monster dunk to put CC up by 20 points 43 - 23....

Susquehanna's only consistent offensive threat was Shaquan "Shoop" Sheppard but CC was all over him so someone else needed to step up....  That someone else happened to be #1 Freshman Shooting guard Jahaad Proctor as he nailed back to back 3 pointers bringing the lead down to 14.....   Proctor was a guy primarily used on JV but as Coach Rogers was looking for answers, he had to turn to someone who could knock down shots....

Ultimately it wasn't enough as CC pulled out a 61 - 41 victory over Hanna....

Cedar Cliff was led by a variety of players...  6'8 Forward Colton Lewis leed the way with 15 points and 3 blocks, Will Hopkins chipped in 11 points and 3 assist, Gardner Webb signee Logan Stumpf had 10 points, 6 rebs and 4 assist while Christo Majok didn't play his best, but still managed to get 8 points, 9 rebs, 6 assist
and 3 steals....

Susquehanna was led by Sheppard with 24 points and 9 rebs, Proctor was next with 6 points and some nice defensive plays for a freshman....  Gabe Mack also chipped in 3 points 5 rebs and 6 assist...

******Two things I wondered was why seniors Vaughn Jones and Shaq Brim hardly play...  Susquehanna has a losing record and these guys have played with winning teams...  I think they earned the right to play bigger roles for the team so they can lead this group of young guys....  These young guys are talented but still need to be coached the entire game because they don't know the varsity game yet....  Very different than the previous levels they played.....

Great action tonight and hopefully both teams have success moving forward....

  1. Wow sounded like a great game. But your last paragraph is the truth. It even happened over at steel-high. They do not like to play the veteran seniors that know the game of basketball really well. A main one is Victor Brubacher. He is a bright young guy, that plays very smart and recieved barely any playing time. Maybe thats why he is not on the team anymore.
