Pontes takes FIRST PLACE in the Steelton Pony league with win over Naples...

If you missed this game, all I can say is WOW....   This game was just as good as advertised and maybe a little better....
This was a game that featured 6 league ALLSTARS with both teams splitting them evenly so it had to come down to THE BENCH.....

Naples is a tough and hard noised team with their three guard lineup of Keyian Bullock, Jordan McCraw and Eric Dickie and Pontes play basketball the "OLD SCHOOL" way "Get the ball to the BIGGS" as the point guard Donovin "Mighty Mouse" Medina has the Twin Towers Tyreese Smith and John Pogasic to dump it to....

During the first 3 quarters, Pontes stayed in front with the lead but never went up more than 5 points as Bullock  and McCraw played really good on the ball defense and played the passing lanes just as well....  The only problem Naples had was they couldn't turn the turnovers into buckets because of Pontes ability to get back on defense to contest every shot....

Once Pontes had a chance to figure out Naples defense and made adjustments, Medina had lots of room to operate and do what he does best....  MAKE PLAYS....

On multiple occasions, Medina sliced and diced his way into the lane and found Pogasic or Smith for easy buckets, or he kept it himself for the lay in....

The game changing play was a steal by Medina on one end and he dribbled all the way up with Bullock on his side....  Bullock tried to time the shot for a block as he did on 3 other occasions this game but was whistled for the foul as Medina made the basket plus the free throw which gave Pontes a 9 point lead...

Naples made a slight comeback in the last minute of the game but ran out of time as Pontes won the game 31 - 23 to repeat as 1st place champs for the regular season....

That's a big accomplishment being that they lost three Allstars from last years championship team in Tiara Little, Jai Burney and Donte Foster....

Pontes played really good defense on Naples top scorer McCraw as he never got into a rhythm this game....  Naples was led by Keyian Bullock with 11 points and 6 steals, Eric Dickie chipped in 6 points, McCraw had 4 pts and 4 steals while Lorenzo McCraw had 2 points and 11 rebounds....

Pontes was led by John Pogasic's 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blks, Donovin Medina chipped in 7 points, 6 assist, 5 steals, Tyreese Smith had 4 points and 14 rebounds while Kobe Petrovich scored 4 big points for Pontes....

Special note goes out to Tamel, Brian and Christian for their defensive effort this game...  They stayed focused and disciplined on their defensive assignment and played great team basketball.....

Next Saturday both teams will play their playoff games as Naples and Mr.Mikes will play the 11:30am game and Pontes vs Brak Bred will be the 12:30pm game.....  

Winner of those games will play in the championships on Sunday at 2pm....   Come on out and support the youth around the city if you can....
