CYO Varsity 1st place title on the line tonight.....

St. Theresa Saints vs. Harrisburg Catholic Wolves for the coveted regular season Harrisburg CYO title at 7 pm at Main St. Gym in Middletown – they both finished 16-2 in the regular season, tied for first.....

St. Theresa is led by 6'3 do it all forward Derrick Ford and flashy lead guard Austin Gilbertson....  Those two make a nice 1-2 combo for any team....

Harrisburg Catholic has multiple weapons but are led by 6'3 WF James Williams and lights out shooter Jo Jo Headen....

This should be a nail bitter so if you can make this game, check it out!!!!

  1. Theresa in a nail biter after losing both times in the regular season to the Wolves. Two great teams. Two great programs.

  2. Great game, close for three quarters, Ford,Gagliardi and Gilbertson battling Williams,Piper and Headen. Fourth quarter Saint Theresa pulled away with 3 timely threes from Fera and good team defense. Classic championship game 56-41

  3. HCC bounced back from a disappointing performance against St. Theresa on Tuesday with a 45-36 victory over St. Joe's last night in the first round of the CYO Varstiy Round Robin Tournament.

This tournament matches the top four teams from the J.V and Varsity divisions.

There's a possible St. Theresa@HCC 4 matchup depending on the outcome of St. Theresa vs Holy Name game tonght at 7:30 (Main St. Gym)in the second game of the first round.

There's some great basketball being played at the top of the CYO.

This Diocese should be represented very well in the upcoming Diocesean Tournament.

  4. Just a little correction from above James Williams is only about 6'0, if he was 6'3" with his wing span and natural ability no one in the area on the 8th. grade level could check him.

Looks like the best shooter in the CYO (Manny Piper) has served his suspenion and shoot his way back into the good graces of the coaching staff. If that's the case watch out for this team to return to early form that had them atop the CYO varsity division all season.

This should allow floor general Joe Headen to return to his more natural play of distributing and penetrating, not having to make up for the scoring and outside shooting lost with Piper's suspenion.

  5. Has anyone ever heard of beating a team twice in both regular season meetings, both teams ending the season with a tying record, and then playing a playoff game to decide the winner? That is what happened to HCC vs. St. Theresa's and I don't understand why the Harrisburg CYO would have that rule in place in determining first place in regular season play. On top of that, there is a limit on the number of games that can be played in the CYO each season and this only makes it more difficult for teams to compete in tournaments, etc outside of regular play. Just wondering for I never heard of this type of rule before, even in other CYO programs. Looks to me like HCC earned First Place fair and square. What are the odds of beating a team 3 times in a row? I always thought that tiebreakers were determined first based on head-to-head play.
