Susquehanna steals game 1 from McDevitt behind Page's sharp shooting....

If you weren't sitting in church last night getting your praise on, then you had to check out this game......     In the first of many High School Sportsnet televised games, this one was a great one to start with....    We had two of the top teams in the area going at it and the only bad part about this game was somebody had to lose....
This game featured some long awaited matchups between some of the top players in the area.....   McDevitt had Justin McAurthor, Dyllon Hudson-Emery, Daquan Phillips, Donte Vaughn, Milik Gantz and Will Pierce.....   Susquehanna had a mob of Jonas Page, Gabe Mack, Bud Mack, Takhi Turner, Savalas Pope, Jahren Dunbar, Jordan Milberry and Joe Marshall......

This game was all about who could take care of the ball and execute....   Both teams have plenty of guys who can do it, but Susquehanna did it two points better on this game taking game one 58 - 56 .....

In the first half, McDevitt's McAuthor was incredible....  No one could keep him out of the lane, he hit numerous jumpers and just took over.....  He has a strong build and just imposes his will on his defender....

On the other hand, Susquehanna had Jonas Page who was lighting it up as well....  This kid is looking more and more like a Mid Major Division 1 prospect because at 6'6, he is a natural 2 guard....   plus he can jump and throw it down on someone, which he did once but almost did it again but was fouled by Gantz....

McDevitt had a 9 point lead, 38 - 29, going into half because Hanna just couldn't get into any type of rhythm....  Daquan Phillips also did a good job of attacking the defense while Will Pierce was all over the glass.....

Then comes the 2nd half, and things looked pretty much the same....  Both teams played it close for the 3rd quarter although McDevitt played a little better out scoring them 14 - 11 in that quarter behind McAuthor and Hudson-Emory.......

Then you heard a HORN, and in comes Jordan Milberry and Takhi Turner....   These two guys just totally changed the entire game DEFENSIVELY!!!!!!   With Milberry on Phillips and Turner on McAuthor, McDevitt lost all of their momentum as they had trouble getting into any offensive set....   It was turnover after turnover and Susquehanna turned them into points.....

Coach Hoke kept trying a new person to help with the pressure but nothing seemed to work....

Then in the final seconds, with the game tied, The Indians put the ball into the hands of Jonas Page who converted on a sweet pull up jumper to take a two point lead.....  All that did was finish off a 18 - 4 fourth quarter won by Susquehanna....

McAuthor finished the game with 23 points for McDevitt while Page led the Indians with 22 points.....

Bud Mack didn't look to attack the basket at all last night but he did come through in the clutch with a big three pointer to tie the game...    He and his brother Gabe combined for 14 points including 3 three pointers....   They will have to begin to apply better ball pressure from the beginning if they want this Indian team to be considered one of the truly Elite teams.....  Pope should play a lot more than he does...  He can't be stopped inside...

McDevitt had some good play from MacAuthor, Hudson-Emory, Phillips and Pierce but guys like Donte Vaughn and Milik Gantz never seemed to get into a real flow...  Vaughn played very careful which is a good and bad thing...  He's a really good shooter and it would have been nice to see him come off of some screens for the open shots....

Gantz didn't give his team anything last night and that's very unusual for him....  Great talent but he has to bring his "A" game every night....   He can't afford to have games like this and expect McDevitt to be successful.....

Great effort by both teams and I look forward to seeing both teams again....
