Indians over CD in the Hoffman Ford Finals...

The Susquehanna Indians are on a roll as they took down Steelton on day 1 and then Central Dauphin in the Finals of the Hoffman Ford HS Boys Basketball tournament 48 - 37....   This was a very low scoring game due to a combination of solid defense and sloppy ball play...
With both teams coming out in a man to man defense, Susquehanna seemed to have the advantage because of their size.....
Joe Marshall

CD didn't have a single player taller than 6'2 while most of the starters were 6'0 or smaller....

6'4 Susquehanna sophomore Joe Marshall took full advantage of his height advantage as he was all over the glass collecting 14 rebounds and scoring 10 points...  He has great timing and a nose for the ball as it comes off the rim...

Takhi Turner

Although he ended up winning the MVP for the tournament, I thought the most consistent player for The Indians was 6'1 jr Takhi Turner......  He poured in a team high 14 points but his defensive awareness and ability to attack off the dribble makes it very difficult to defend him....   He has taken his game to a new level because now he can hit the outside shot as well.....

Gabe Mack got more into an offensive rhythm dropping 13 points with a few nice pull up jumpers in transition....  but his brother Nehemiah "Bud" Mack has yet to get his offense going scoring only 1 point but handing out 8 assist.....   It seems as though Bud is a little too focused on distributing to everyone and not taking advantage of the mis matches he has on the court....  standing 6'1 and 195lbs, he can abuse smaller guards inside without a problem....   When he realize this, Hanna will be on a different level....

CD's best player by far is 5'11 sr guard Brian Laird....   He hasn't met a shot he doesn't like because he will pull it from anywhere...  Although he is small, he has a real quick release plus a high arc.....   He scored 17 points but worked his tail off to get it....  It may have been a different outcome if he had a little help on the court.....

Again, good game to both teams and they both have a long way to go...  I'd love to see how they look at the end of the season compared to now...  I'd bet the coaches wouldn't have to manage the offense as much and just focus more on the defense....   With it being so early in the season, it seems as though the players are too focused on running the offense correctly and not using their basketball instincts at all....  It will get better I'm sure...

  2. Indians are going to be a good team this year. However, Rogers has too many plays and you're right, it takes away from the players instincts. I honestly believe that Rogers time at Susquehanna has run its course and they need a change. He plays favorites too much. Although Bud is amazing, Turner is just as great, more experienced and should be starting.
