Day 1 at Adidas Phenom Camp

The first day at the Adidas Phenom camp started out a little shaky due to registration issues...  Once the kids got started playing basketball, they represented the area very well.....
Some of the top young talent in the area was in attendance and this was a great opportunity for me to see all of them at once.....

Montrel Morgan from New Hope Academy Charter School in York who is an 8th grader was a complete monster....   Montrel was the most dominant player on the court as he hit pull up jumpers, attacked the basket hard, defended well and also got his team mates involved...  Had a number of great moves on the floor...   Was called up to play in the high school division also....

James Williams of Nativity controlled the paint as he had a double/double in both of his games...  James can finish well around the basket and can also hit the 15 footer...   He'll be really tough to guard once he develops the confidence to put the ball on the floor more...  He was another kid called up to play in the HS division....

Jaron Grayer was a man amongst boys in his two games...  Attacked the basket at will, hit the pull up jumper and played really good in the passing lanes...  He can be a perimeter threat for Steelton in the near future...

Tyrece Little had a really good all around day as he played two middle school and two high school games for the day...  Had some of the sweetest moves of the day in camp with left hand finishes and numerous full court chase down blocks...   Competed hard in the HS division and held his own....

Elyjah Camp was his usual self slicing and dicing through the lane....  Defense was outstanding and he was probably the top playmaker I saw...  Will probably get an opportunity to play with the HS guys on Day 2 as well....  This kid will be special!

Ben Green was on fire in his first game as he came off the bench and hit 4 treys in a row for his team....  He was very under control as he and Ahmir Wright played well together....  Ahmir stayed in attack mode and made plays for others...  Played like the typical Harrisburg guard as he kept his defenders on their heels...

Tim Kater was just lights out from the perimeter as he may have missed only one trey for the day...  His accuracy is incredible for one so young....  He did a great job communicating on the court as well which shows leadership qualities...

Tayvon Bowers and Kentrell Rucker were on the same team as they did damage on the court...  Rucker was hitting threes from all over and Bowers was a monster inside the paint as he got to the line time after time....

Casey Caruso didn't have his usual days but still was able to hit a few threes and handle the pressure like a champ....  Would love to see Casey rebound the ball better and play tougher defense....  He had a great day of passing as he played with Montrel Morgan...

Darien Perez played incredibly strong on the inside and got bucket after bucket as long as he stayed around the basket...  Made lots of strong drives and had many offensive rebounds today....  as did Willie Davis as he was always in the right place at the right time....

Tito Fleminster had a great day as he hit the jumper and had some nice drives to the basket....  You never know if he's having fun because his facial expression never changes but I believe he was enjoying the moment....

Daron Jennings played very well from the wing and showed that he is definitely one of the top forward s around...  Daron is long and athletic and can develop into a very nice combo guard with some hard work...

Jabari Tate shocked a lot of people there because of his height and ability to make plays on the court....  Jabari can see the court better than almost any player around...  When he gets in better condition, get stronger and a little quicker, he'll be talked about as one of the top pg's in this area...  The kid has skills...

Malik Tate - Defreites showed flashes of his athletic ability but has to have the confidence to make plays consistently......

Jaron Scott showed he belonged on the court but can do more...  Needs to be more aggressive in demanding the ball and just leading his team...

Grey Hess played a nice role for his team as he was a very good all around player for the day...  Lots of hustle plays which makes him look like a promising player...

One girl came with us, Ayla Jones who had a great experience playing against some pretty good boys...  Ayla played hard all day and benefited greatly...

The 5th grade group was solid as well as guards Keyian Bullock and Donovin Medina competed hard vs some very good talent...They scored buckets and defended very well....  Two of the toughest gusrds you'll see around.......  Duece Lee was all over the court and he attacked the basket hard.....  Justin Saunders and Alin Jones had to bang with the big boys inside the paint and they had no problem competing...  This is a tough group of 5th graders in this area so look out for them....  We also had 1 4th grader, Tamel Little who played extremely hard both games and hustled on defense....  If he keeps it up, his future could be bright...
