South Central Select has their heads held HIGH!!!!!

There were five SCS teams in action this weekend, and all can walk away from their tournament with heads held high.  On the boys' side, the 13U and 14U teams were at the CATS Challenge.  The 11U/12U boys were in Red Lion at an AFBE Tournament, and the 16U boys were in Philadelphia at the Philly Triple Threat Summer Tipoff.  The lone girls' team was Coach Royer and his 13U girls, who were at DeSales University for the Mid-Atlantic Elite Classic.....

Though they have been close several times this season and have probably had the most down-to-the-wire games of any team, the 14U boys finally emerged with a tournament championship this weekend.  Led by Coach Gemmell, as Coach Torchia has previously arranged commitments, the 14U boys battled and scrapped through an intense championship game versus York Ballers and came out victorious, 48-45.  Congrats to the entire team on the accomplishment!!!!

Also at the CATS Challenge, the 13U boys stormed by CATS and Advanced Hoops in pool play, and then in the semi-finals, defeated CATS yet again.  In the championship game, Coach Green and the squad fell to a very talented Dejavu team.  Though a championship wasn't collared, the season was finished on a high note for the team.....

The 16U boys ventured to Philadelphia this weekend for the Philly Triple Threat Summer Tipoff.  After defeating West Hartford Magic in the first game by 17, the boys stunned GH Pro-Am in the second pool play game, where a near-flawless first half culminated in a 54-45 victory.  After losing to Team HH in the Philadelphia Hoop Group Jamfest several weeks ago, Coach Savercool and the team came out on Sunday and earned redemption by defeating them 52-46 and clinching a spot in the championship.  In the title game, a rematch versus GH Pro-Am, a late first half lull had the squad looking at a 13-point halftime deficit.  In the 2nd half, down 15 with 6 minutes to go, the boys orchestrated a fantastic comeback and pulled to 1 with a minute to play.  A failed possession by SCS, which would've given them the lead, was the final dagger and GH Pro-Am closed out the championship and won, 65-60.  The loss still doesn't take away the fact that the boys played with heart until the final whistle and had many in Philadelphia asking, "who is South Central Select?".....

The 13U girls started their weekend with a bang by defeating NEPA Flames, 53-27.  After a bizarre lunch at Red Robin, a lot of the girls came away sick.  Still, Coach Royers' team fought in game 2, but couldn't pull out the victory versus LV Outcast.  In the third game on Sunday, the girls' trounced CAL Sports Academy, 53-17.  The girls' will be finishing their season in a few weeks in Ocean City, Maryland.

Mentioned in an earlier post, Coach Bobby Thomas and his 11U/12U team are a bundle of energy and a pleasure to watch because all of the players truly enjoy playing the game and for Coach Thomas.  In their first game of the weekend in Red Lion, the boys' defeated Hereford, 35-13.  Following up on that performance, the team defeated Advanced Hoops, 37-21.  In Sunday's first game, the young'ns continued their weekend on a strong note and bounced Mid-Penn Motion by a score of 50-18.  After losing a few players to baseball commitments, the team fell in Sunday's finale to Cen York, 51-22.  Coach Thomas and the squad have a lot to be proud of.  Below is a picture of the team....
