What's the job of a HS Coach these days?

This is a topic I hear people talk about a whole lot....  "Are HS Coaches responsible for helping kids get into College?"  ...  There's a lot of different opinions on this and we don't know who's right or wrong....

These days, parents are spending a whole heck of a lot of money on aau basketball, summer camps, hotels, gas and food just so their kid can have a chance at getting a College Scholarship and maybe get to play professional Ball one day...  When all that fun is over, it's back to reality, SCHOOL TEAM.......

Some kids are aau VETS but may not even get off the bench for their HS team....  If they don't get off the bench, it's tough to get a chance at a College Scholarship...  So who is at fault here?  Is it the HS Coach who didn't play the kid?  Is it the aau Coach for not telling the kid he isn't ready for school ball yet?  Is it the kid's parent for not holding the kid accountable for getting better?  Or is it the kid who didn't work as hard as he should have because he was an aau star?  Whoever is at fault here doesn't matter, the #1 person who gets blamed is the HS Coach....

90% of the HS Coaches in Central PA aren't coaching to help kids get better and go to College....  They enjoy Coaching the game, they love the recognition that comes with the position and they are living their dream...  You won't find too many coaches say they coach because they want to help kids...

So when will these parents and athletes realize that they can't put all of their faith in a HS coach to determine the kids future???

There's some coaches out there who put in extra time with kids...  They open the gym early in the morning, they stay late at night too....  They put their JV and Varsity in Summer Leagues as well as the Middle School kids...  They are on the phone with Colleges from all levels because they have players from all levels....  To me, that's a GREAT GUY....  Not necessarily a GREAT COACH but definitely a GREAT GUY...  Then there's some coaches who don't really care to do any leagues with their players or make any phone calls, but they do all they can during the season...  They get wins and that's it....

It's a new age and things are a lot different these days...  Today's players require a lot of time in the gym because the outdoor courts just aren't as safe as they used to be...  Kids can't just go to the park, play ball and know that they are in a safe environment anymore...  So more gyms need to be open for kids, more leagues need to be ran for kids and more community guys have to GIVE BACK so the kids can have a chance to live their dreams....

I know I went all over the place with this one but you tell me, WHAT'S THE JOB OF A HS COACH?
