Local teams Shine at "The Show" aau tourney...

I had the opportunity to spend the weekend at Steelton HS/Steelton Elementary to watch some of the young guys from the Harrisburg, York and Lancaster area....  I was not disappointed as the future is bright here in Central PA...   The host, Team Supernatural, did a fantastic job putting this event together...  There were teams from 10u all the way up to 17u and these kids competed their hearts out...   There were quite a few teams that really stood out to me in a variety of age groups....  Here's some of the local teams I really liked...

Brak Bred 10u, 11u and 12u - These three teams had a mixture of kids who played on both teams...  This was a group of mainly Steelton kids with a few from the Harrisburg and East Pennsboro area....   These young guys played hard and played together....  The really understood how to attack a press and played well beyond their years...  They have a nice nucleus of players with 4th grader Machi leading the way...  The kid is a stone cold crusher on the court....  Then with guards like Duece Erby (12u), Shawn Lewis jr (11u), Tyreke Warren(11u) and Gavin Bean (11u), it's difficult to press those three teams.....

York Raiders 10u - 17u -  These guys came to the Steelton area DEEP!!!   They brought a bunch of teams from the York area and most of them played really well all weekend....    The 4th grade team won the championship and then went on and lost in the championship in the 5th grade division...  Their 7th grade team won the championship as well and that happens to be their 3rd championship in just as many tournaments....  They won the 8th grade division without being touched as they BLEW every team out...  Ended up beating CUE out of Lancaster 80 - 38 with guys like Jasere Drayden (double double every game) and Semajae "Smudge" Smith (32 pts in one game) leading the way....  The 9th grade team made it to the final 4 before losing to the eventual champs Central PA Elite 15u...  Zion Patterson from Carlisle HS put on a show for the Raiders...  The 10th grade team played hard but was really short handed....  By time they started to put it together, more guys got injured...  Jairee Pinkney and Manny Bermudez led the way but both went down with injuries....   The 11th grade team put on a show all weekend with guys like Jaihare Wilson, Kris Johnson, Mike Coleman and Jaki Bowman...  This group was very exciting to watch and made it to the finals...  They eventually lost to Team Supernatural in the Finals by 3 points but played their hearts out....  Great showing by The York Raiders organization....

Central PA Elite 15u - This team was put together really well and had great balance between big guys, guards and wings....  They were well coached and it was obvious that those guys really like playing with each other...  I was really impressed with all of those guys but especially impressed with 6'4 wing guy Timmy Edwards (Trinity), 5'5 lead guard Justin Henry (CD East), 5'11 off guard Evan Chandler (CD East), 6'1 Forward Tre'al Seagers (Susquehanna), and 6'3 forward Jon Baker (Cumberland Valley)....   This group pretty much dominated the 15u division but had a good game against Advanced Hoops 14u (Little) in the finals...  They ended up winning by 17 and walked away with the hardware....  Point guard Austin Gilbertson did a great job running the team as well....

Advanced Hoops 14u and 15u -  Both teams had a very successful weekend playing up an age group....  Watching them play, a person would have never knew that they were a little younger than their opponents...  The 15u team played in the 16u division and went 1 - 2 with a big win over York Raiders but lost to True Ballers and NEPA Boys & Girls club...  This group played hard and at times they looked great....  The backcourt of Tyrece Little (New Hope) and Nick Ramsey  (CD East) is one of the biggest and strongest backcourts I've seen...  Both kids can play perimeter ball but can also post smaller guards up because of their size/strength....  Little had to be the best rebounding guard there and also showed a nice pull up jumper off the dribble....  Ramsey has the ability to get into the lane and make plays for others as well as himself...  Shooter Mitch Henry was hitting shots from all over the court as he seems to be a 3 point specialist....  5'11 guard Justin Carter played great defense causing lots of turnovers...  8th grader 6'7 Sean Good played two grades up and did more than compete, he really held his own...  Had a lot of blocks and did a great job finishing around the basket.....   He's going to be a special player...  The 14u team is a special group and is really only two players away from being a top team in the country I think...  They have 3 big guys in 6'7 Sean Good, 6'5 muscle man Ian Renninger from Pottsville and 6'4 clean up guy Zach Weigle of Central Dauphin...  Then the wings are dangerous with 6'1 Do it All Forward Tim Kater who was one of the top 3 players in the 9TH GRADE DIVISION...  This kid just took over and put his team on his back...  6'0 defensive specialist Austin Noll used his size to his advantage and got his hands on multiple balls....  Then the guards controlled the tempo of the game...  The backcourt of Jayshun "Bear" Ramsey (one of the top pg's in the division) and Casey Caruso (deadly shooter from three point range) handled every team they played against...  Then with 7th grade sensation Ali Anthony (Heart of a Lion) and crafty guard Mike Scarpelli, there isn't much of a drop with these guys on the floor...  This group went all the way to the Finals but lost to Central PA Elite 15u by 17pts....

Team Supernatural 17u -  This team was put together really well with guys from all over Central PA...  They were tough to stop with emerging star Dwight "Buddy" Whitlock (CD East????  stay tuned...) and ex Steelton star Mark Perry....  Another kid I really liked was Dylon Bleacher...  This little guard has crazy handles and can create plays like no other....  He's going to be a special player because of his high motor and skills...  They made it through the weekend unblemished and ended up beating a really good York Raider team by 3 points in the Finals...  Whitlock has turned into a nice combo guard who can play above the rim or hit the outside shot....   Perry attacks the rim with incredible passion and can finish with the best of them...   Big weekend for this group as they are making a case for being the top 17u team in the area....

Spooky Nook 17u - Nice to see these guys develop because they are getting better tourney after tourney...  I liked the guard play of Aaron Schriver and there were some bigs that went hard inside the paint...  Ended up in 3rd place in the tourney...
