Adv Hoops looking good at Spooky Nook...

First off I have to say that the facilities at Spooky Nook are INCREDIBLE!!!!!  Has to be the largest indoor sports complex in the US....   OK, had to get that off my chest...

This was a great weekend for basketball...  The Pizza Hut Mid Atlantic tournament has moved from Milton Hershey to Spooky Nook and it has drawn teams from all over the East coast...  and why not?  With 14 Full Court Hoops, arcade, rock climbing, football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, workout center, concessions and more, it only makes sense...

There were a lot of teams from the Scranton area as well as Nazareth, Wilkes Barre and even Jersey City, NJ came down to compete in what was a well balanced tournament...

Advanced Hoops had a good number of teams on both the girls and boys side of this tournament....  This was a tough tournament for most of the teams on the boys side but the girls did outstanding...

Advanced Hoops 14U (Moore) played in the 8th grade Silver Division and Ended up in the Championship game vs a very good NEPA Flames team from the Scranton area....  The Flames ended up winning the Gold but Adv Hoops (Moore) played their hearts out...

Adv Hoops 14U Fortney Gold Champions
Advanced Hoops 14U (Fortney) really went out and handled their business this weekend...   by going 2 - 0 on Saturday, they earned the top seed for Sunday's playoffs as they beat JB Hoops - Lance and then getting to the championships and beating LC Baller in a close game....  Great overall team effort led by 5'7 combo guard Tiara Little with her all around play and incredible rebounding by 6'0 forward Lauren Pettis....  Little was a tough match up being that she could rebound and start the break herself and even defend up to 4 positions....

In the HS Divisions, The Advanced Hoops/Team PA teams just dominated the other teams...  For the 10a/11th grade division both Advanced Hoops teams made it to the Finals with Team Felker beating Team Dudek by a small margin....   while in the 11th grade division both Team PA teams got to the Finals....  Team PA Dudek overcame a very good Team PA Sutton squad...  Very good weekend for the girls....

Now don't get me wrong, there was some success on the boys side as well....  Advanced Hoops 14U and 15U (Team Little) made it to the Finals respectively...   Both teams played up a grade level so it forced them to compete at a high level...  The 14U went 2 - 0 the 1st day giving them the top seed going into the playoffs...  They won the first round of the playoffs vs CAL Sports Academy and then went on to face a really good 9th grade Backcourt Hoops team with great size and good guard play...  Team Little squeezed out the win by 6 points but it took everything out of them for that game playing without one of their top players 6'5 Ian Renninger out of Pottsville....  Combo Guard Casey Caruso and Power Wing Forward Tim Kater were lights out from the three point line while Jayshun "Bear" Ramsey and 7th grade sensation Ali Anthony harassed the ball all second half....  6'7 forward Sean Good came up huge with 9 block shots and some key baskets when needed....  6'3 Forward Zach Weigle was a monster on the glass leading the team with 14 boards that game as well....

The Championship game was a tough one vs The Jersey City Spartans as they had a lot of fire power and couldn't miss a shot....  They ended up beating Team Little by 16pts and walked away with the Gold...  Renninger was dearly missed that game...  Mike Scarpelli of Trinity had a GREAT game for Team Little 14u as he led the way with 15pts and a host of HOT MOVES handling that basketball....

Team Little 15U played up in the 10th grade division and started out 2 - 0 on Saturday as well....  This led them into the playoffs as the #1 seed on the top half of the bracket facing In The Zone from the Allentown area...  It was a good game but Team Little was a little too much led by the strong rebounding by Damien Barber ( 11pts,17 rebs ), Sharp shooting of Mitch Henry (21 pts including 5 threes) and do it all guard Tyrece Little (11pts, 12 rebs, 8asst, 5stls)....   combo guard Nick Ramsey also played a very good all around game with 8pts and 4 assist....

Winning that game put them into the Semi Finals vs CC Thunder....  This game was fierce and very heated...  I think the officials should have done a better job controlling the emotions on the court....  It got a little out of control as a player on both teams were ejected...  Team Little happened to squeeze the game out by 4 points with some clutch shooting by 5'8 guard Jordan Gillis who nailed a big three pointer to make it a two possession game...  Sean Good had a team high of 11blks while Nick Ramsey had 13pts and 6 assist....

Then getting to the Finals vs Jersey City Spartans was a tough one...  Team Little was on their 3rd game for the day and playing without Little (ejected in the Semi's) while The Spartans were fresh, playing their 1st game of the day....  Team Little ran out of gas early as they fell behind by 15 by half which grew to 27 by the end of the day....  Not bad for a team playing up a grade, walking away with the Silver...

Like I said before, great day of basketball at Spooky Nook....  Looking forward to the next one...

Coach Little
