Mansfield Prospect Camp review

This past Saturday I was able to travel to Mansfield, PA to watch some of the local talent from Central PA compete at Mansfield University....  This one day camp was put together by Coach Will Cabrera and he did a fabulous job....  The kids ran through lots of College pace drills so they can get an idea of how a competitive College practice looked at one of the top schools in a very competitive PSAC division....

Here's a little run down on some of the players from Central PA who were in attendance.....

Jamaal Carter 5'10 lead guard (2013 Harrisburg HS) - This young man has all of the leadership skills a coach need in a point guard.  He did a very good job of pushing the tempo and getting his team mates involved.  Has developed a nice floater and can defend 90 feet...  Probably led all campers in assist as he found guys in transition time and time again....

James Ezel 6'4 Wing Guard (2014 Harrisburg HS) - James is a tremendous athlete with a lot of ability...  He plays above the rim and attacks the glass like a monster...  He has the ability to rebound the ball and start the fast break himself...  He was the only kid I saw draw 2 charges because that's just how he plays....  Has the ability to play at a fast pace but can also change speeds and play half court ball....  Keep an eye on him...  The kid already has a Division 1 body....

Kareem Oden 5'10 Combo Guard (2014 New Hope Charter) - Oden with his baby like face may fool you at first but when he touches the ball, it's a whole different story....  He can score with the best of them and showed a nice mid range game....  Once he realize that the college game is constant movement, he will be ready for that level....  He has really good strength which allows him to hold his own against strong guards too....

Tyler Hoagland 5'10 lead guard (2015 Cedar Cliff) - I really like Tyler's game because he's your "OLD SCHOOL" pg....  He goes north and south with his dribble and is always looking to get his teammates involved...  He can get to the basket because he's pretty crafty with the ball as well....  His speed is very deceiving as well....

Dwight " Buddy " Whitlock 6'4 Wing Guard (2015 CD East) - I said this multiple times before, this kid has got to be the most improved player in the class of 2015....  Buddy went up over a 6'5 kid and THREW IT DOWN with authority on him....  That one play opened everyone's eyes and they realized he meant business....  Buddy looked really good in drills and attacking the basket as well....   The best is yet to come for him...

Bryce Hall 6'2 Combo Guard (2016 McDevitt) - Bryce did a great job in handling the ball, hitting shots and just looking like he belonged on the court....  That's important for a young guy and he played with confidence...  Bryce will end up being a very good player for McDevitt and should push some of the older kids for time on the court...  He showed a nice stroke and didn't rush his shots....

Omar Fraser 6'2 Forward (2016 Lawrenceville, GA) - Omar is from the Steelton area but recently moved to Georgia....  He is very raw at this point but isn't done growing....  With both parents being above 6'2, who knows how tall he'll be....  He showed flashes that he can be a very good defensive player but still has to brush up on his offensive game....  It will come in time...

Tyrece Little 6'0 Combo Guard (2017 New Hope Charter) - Little was the youngest here at camp but showed that he can compete with older players without a problem....  Did very well on defense as he and Carter got steal after steal...  Handled the ball well and attacked the basket finishing with either hand...
Jumpshot looked flat as he only shot a couple of them....  He was able to play at a fast pace without a problem....   Not bad for a kid who didn't step foot into HS yet....

Overall, it was a very good experience and I'd like to thank Coach Cabrera for inviting the Central PA kids to the University....  They had an opportunity to view the campus as well so you can't beat that....
