Big Shots (DC Assault) and Central PA players plus video of 16U Championship game....

This past weekend was a great weekend for basketball all over the country...  but one of the best spots to be playing basketball this weekend was right in our nations capital Washington , DC at the BIG SHOTS (DC Assault) tournament....  Central PA was represented by three local teams, Advanced Hoops 12U, 14U and PA Pump n Run 16U teams...  The competition was fierce and each team had a great experience in their own way....

The Advanced Hoops 12U team was asked to play up a grade so the competed against two very good 13U teams in Franklin Force and PG Bulls.....  The young guys gave everything they had but the other two teams were just a little too strong and experienced for them....  I saw some good fight out of this young group and guys like Tyreese Smith, Matt Long, Tarajae Davis, Qualeem Poindexter, Gerald Jarmon III and Isiah Carroll showed they can compete...  It's just a matter of time before they get stronger and learn to play at a high level consistently....  This can be a dangerous group if they could add another big kid...  They have very good guard play and Tyreese Smith is forced to play inside but he's more comfortable on the wing attacking the basket....  Overall, the weekend was a success because of the experience these young guys had.

The Advanced Hoops 14U Elite team had a successful weekend as well...   They played against Basic 1st Basketball from DC in their first game and won that one by 41 points....  They did a very good job distributing the ball, pressing up and creating turnovers which led to easy baskets.....  Tyrece Little (9pts, 8rebs, 7asst, 5stls), Elyjah Camp (14 pts, 7stls) and Justin Carter (11pts, 4stls, 5rebs) were instrumental in setting the tempo of the game defensively as they shared 10 steals within the first 7 minutes of the game....  Guys like Mitch Henry(9pts, 5rebs of East Penn) and Austin Gilbertson (3pts, 6 asst of St. Theresa's) did a great job hitting shots and moving the ball and setting up SHARP SHOOTER Corday Willis (7pts) when he came in the game....

The 2nd game vs Vienna Heat 14U was similar to the first game as far as the way the tempo was set...  Camp started the game with 4 steals and 8 points in the first 2 minutes of the game...  After that, Mitch Henry hit a couple of threes followed by a pair of hard drives by Justin Carter and Tyrece Little and ADV Hoops was in full control...  This game, guys like Chris Henderson (Steelton), Kurt Cain (Lower Dauphin) and Tre Baltimore (Steelton) gave heavy contributions on both ends of the floor...   Austin Gilbertson went on a scoring spree of his own as he scored 7 straight at one point....  ADV Hoops ended up winning this game by 23 points and locked up the #1 seed heading into the playoffs on Sunday morning.....

ADV Hoops matched up with NOVA Heat 14U and NOVA Heat was ready for this game....  They happened to add a big guy to there team so they could match up better and he was a difference maker...  ADV Hoops came out with very little energy playing in the 8am game and NOVA used that to their advantage by jumping out to a 21 - 3 lead early in the first half....  By time ADV Hoops 14U woke up and began to play their game, time had run out and NOVA Heat won the game 76 - 65.....

The PA PnR 16U team had a fantastic weekend as they played against Team Chaos in their first game....  PnR won that game 51 - 34 and had a great effort by Jahaad Proctor (19pts with 3 three pointers), Dejour Williams (8pts, 6 assist, 3stls), Joe Marshall (8pts, 8rebs), Jahaire Wilson (4pts, 14rebs) and Nehemiah "Bud" Mack (6pts, 5 asst, 4stls)....   The next game was against DC Assault Gold 15U team which is a very good team...  They played up but clearly could handle it....  PnR ended up winning that game 55 - 49 behind 19pts from Jahaad Proctor, a double double (13pts, 13rebs) from York's Jahaire Wilson and a good all around game from Freshman Bud Mack (5pts, 8rebs, 5 asst, 4 stls)....  Wilson, Joe Marshall, Ty Gibson (Reading) and Nadir Boone (Williamsport) did a great job inside the paint and containing D1 prospect Joe Hampton limiting him to only 5pts for the game....

Heading into Sunday undefeated led them to a matchup against the Fairfax Stars out of northern Virginia...  This was a tough group of kids who played extremely hard...  They were led by 5'5 lightning quick guard Jason Jolly (15pts, 5assist) as no one could stay in front of this kid....  He made this a very good game when it looked like PnR was going to run away....  What really helped PnR was the fast start from All State guard Jahaad Proctor....  He scored the first 14 pts of the game for PnR and knocked down 4 threes early...  That really opened up the inside for guys like Jahaire Wilson, Joe Marshall, Ty Gibson and Nadir Boone....   This game was a battle till the end as Fairfax kept it very close...  PnR had plenty of chances to pull away but could not connect at the foul line...  Coach Proctor told them it would come back to haunt them if they couldn't connect on free throws.....   Proctor finished the game with 24pts on 6 threes, Wilson had another double double with 13pts and 14rebs while Joe Marshall contributed with 9pts and went 5 - 5 from the charity stripes....

The Championship game was one of the best games of the weekend as PnR took on DC Assault Gold 16U...  This team is one of the top 10 teams in the country as they have 7 Division 1 prospects on their rostor led by Leroy Butts who picked up an offer from Cincinnati this weekend....  DC Assault jumped out on Pnr early taking a 9 point lead but like always, PnR never quit and fought back hard to be down by 3 at the half....  This game was a little different for Proctor because DC Assault really focused on his outside shooting so he didn't hit any threes this game....  his points came from strong drives to the basket and free throws...  Instead guys like Dejour Williams, Bud Mack and Tyree Gibson all knocked a three down to prove they can do it too....  Proctor played well leading to an All Tournament selection, Jahaire Wilson had 8pts and 10 rebs this game but the guy who really stepped up for PnR was soph lead guard from Harrisburg Dejour Williams....  He may have only scored 5 pts but his 9 assist and ball handling ability proved that he can play against some of the countries best players in a very hostile environment....  DC Assault had a hard time getting the ball out of his hands and he seemed to always make the right play...  His game went to another level during that game because he proved that scoring points from the pg position doesn't always make you the best player you can be....  His ability to find the open man by drawing the defense and dishing was vital and necessary for his team to have a chance to win.....    Ty Gibson and Nadir Boone both gave quality minutes scoring 7 and 6 respectively and sharing 10 rebounds evenly....    DC Assault ended up winning the game 53 - 49 but PA PnR walked out that gym with a lot of respect....

Check out the video here....    PA Pump n Run 16U vs DC Assault Gold 16U

Overall top players I saw this weekend from Central PA were.....

Tyreese Smith ADV Hoops 12U - He had to battle against some really good big guys and he never showed any fear...  His attack game from the wing has improved greatly.

Gerald Jarmon III ADV Hoops 12U - his game is very deceptive because he's faster than he looks.  He can knock down shots and defend very well....

Tarajae Davis ADV Hoops 12U - Tarajae has a very high motor and loves to attack the defense...  He has a nice soft touch around the basket as well...

Matt Long ADV Hoops 12U - This kid is very crafty with the basketball...  He had a number of nifty moves around the basket and he also possess a high IQ for the game....

Elyjah Camp ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Camp has a nice feel for the game...  His footwork is incredible and he can literally score at will....  He led the 8th grade division in scoring and steals...   Some guards were hesitant on bringing the ball up court against him....  The best is yet to come...

Tyrece Little ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Little was the "do it all" guy for his team...  Standing at almost 6 feet, this combo guard played everything from PG to PF and defended all positions on the floor...  His Rondae Jefferson style of play makes him a
stat sheet filler and only those who really know basketball appreciates what he brings to the table on both ends.

Justin Carter ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Justin is one of the most athletic kids in this class....  He had some nice drives to the basket and plenty of steals as well...  He has a very high motor on the court....  Finished well at the basket, even with contact....

Mitch Henry ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Mitch is a flat out baller...  He shoots the ball extremely well and is a confident young man...   He is an x factor on this team because he's another kid that can do so many things....

Corday Willis ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Willis came off the bench but was instant offense all weekend...  He scores in bunches and loves to shoot the three ball....

Austin Gilbertson ADV Hoops 14U Elite - Gilbertson is one of those kids who silently kills you...  He can dish, shoot and has great leadership qualities....  Went on a scoring spree one game but he can do that more and more often....

Jahaad Proctor - PA PnR 16U - Can't say enough about his development...  He ended up leading the 16U division in scoring as he lit everyone up...  Already with a couple of College offers, I can see more coming within the next week or two...  He matched up with some of the top players in the DC area and he more than held his own....

Jahaire Wilson PA PnR 16U - Although he only stands at 6'4, this kid can jump with the best of them...  Wilson controlled the paint and owned the glass as well....  I would be shocked if he didn't make the All Tournament team once it's presented....

Dejour Williams PA PnR 16U - Williams was a silent assassin as all he did was make the right play over and over again....  His ability to get past his man and find the open man was extremely valuable and his stock rose this weekend....

Nehemiah "Bud" Mack PA PnR 16U - Mack is the only Freshman on this team but he fits in well...  standing at 6'0 and 190lbs, he's a strong guard and handles the ball really well....  Did a good job finishing plays and rebounding from the guard position as well....

Joe Marshall PA PnR 16U - Marshall is a hard working kid who gets most of his stats around the basket....  He stepped out a few times to knock down the 15 footers and he attacks the glass hard...

Tyree Gibson PA PnR 16U - Gibson is one of those players who can do a lot on the court...  His ability to handle the ball from the wing or post his defender up was huge for his team...  Gibson also hits the glass hard using his 6'5 frame....

Nadir Boone PA PnR 16U - Boone was a new addition to the team but was a monster inside...  It was obvious that he didn't know the offense yet but he just played with heart and toughness so he fit right in....

Overall, great weekend for all of the teams.....
