Harrisburg Youth Goes Hard at Hoop Group Philly Jr. Elite!!!!!

This has been a really good year for the young kids in our area....  They have gotten a lot of experience getting out of town and competing against some of the top talent up and down the East Coast....  Yesterday was another good one as there was no better place to be than near Philly at the Competitive Edge Sports Complex for the HOOP GROUP JR. ELITE CAMP where some of the top middle school players from Philly, South Jersey and Allentown were in attendance...

Here's how 9 of the kids from the Harrisburg area looked yesterday...

From left to right...  Deion "Pacman" Patterson, Tayvon Bowers, Jabari Tate, Elyjah Camp, Ahmir Wright, Casey Caruso, Darien Perez, Tyrece Little, Tito Fleminster

Jabari Tate (Steelton) 8th grade - Jabari had the opportunity to play on a loaded team....  He had one of the top 8th graders in the country, Terquin Mott on his team...  Tate was a good ball distributor and did well in the ball handling drills...  Tate will have to get better conditioned so he can be even more effective on the floor...  His IQ is far beyond his years...  Still has to work on shooting technique as well...   Grade B-

Elyjah Camp (Harrisburg) 7th grade -  Elyjah was one of the most elusive guards at the camp...  He jumps into passing lanes and defends as good as anyone in middle school...  He did a very good job getting into the lane on offense and creating scoring opportunities for others...  Camp did well pushing the ball, attacking the defense, rebounding the ball and was very active...  Still has to work on his outside shot so he can become more of a complete player...   Grade  A

Tyrece Little (Emmanuel Baptist) 7th grade - Little had a very good day as he impressed the coaches during the ball handling/shooting drills.  Once they began going up and down, he was even more impressive....  Ty was able to get into the lane at will and finish with both hands equally well....  Did a good job setting screens and rolling to the basket...  He showed a very high IQ for the game which is important at events like that...  Still needs to pick his head up faster once he rebounds the ball because he missed a few guys who were open down court due to over dribbling....  Overall, great effort...   Grade  A

Ahmir Wright (Harrisburg) 7th grade -  Wright is looking more and more comfortable at these events...  His ball handling and shooting looked good during the drills....  Once they began playing, he was a terror on defense...  Guards had a difficult time getting around him...  He moves his feet so well and takes pride in his defense...  He played on the same team as Little and they worked the pick and roll game really good...  Good day for Wright overall...    Grade B+

Tayvon Bowers (Susquehanna) 7th grade - Bowers is growing like a weed and so is his game...  He did a good job handling the ball and went to the basket really strong....  Still has to work on his weak hand with dribbling and finishing but his shooting technique looks a lot better....  Good day for him overall...  Grade  B+

Casey Caruso (Emmanuel Baptist) 6th grade - Casey was a wizard during the ball handling and shooting drills...  Looked like he could have done it for another 4 hours...  That's his comfort zone...   He did pretty good scoring the ball but has to learn how to play without the ball in his hands....  Camps are filled with guards so everyone can't have the ball at the same time....  Once he learns to diversify his game, it will take him to another level....  Good day for the youngster...  Grade  B

Darien Perez (Susquehanna) 7th grade - Darien did very well in the shooting drills and also the defense drills...  He always went game speed during every drill....  Perez was all over the glass during 5 on 5 play and had some nice drives to the basket as well....  Still need to work on his shooting technique and weak hand dribble so he can make a smooth transition into a 2 guard.....   Grade B+

Quintyn "Tito" Fleminster (Harrisburg) 7th grade - Tito is the type of kid who loves to compete...  He went hard in the drills and was lights out when it came to shooting the ball....  When the games began, he had the tendency to allow other players to play the pg position...   The problem with that was he was the best pg on his team....  When he took control of the ball, good things happened....  He just didn't do it enough...  Grade B-

Deion "Pac Man" Patterson (Harrisburg) 6th grade - Pac Man was like a 10 year old in a candy store....  He looked as if he loved every minute of the camp...  He did well during the drills, especially shooting the ball....  When they went up and down playing 5 on 5, he showed a lot of energy...  He played good defense on the ball also...  still has to work on being in good help side and also has to get stronger with the basketball...    Grade B-
