Mid Penn Tournament matchups....

Just that fast playoff basketball is here....   It seems like yesterday every team had tryouts and were setting goals for the season....  3 short months later, half of the teams are preparing for Spring sports and aau basketball....   With that being said, it's win or go home season and every conference has their own tourney before the two big ones, Districts and States....

The Mid Penn conference consist of 4 divisions, Commonwealth, Keystone, Capital and Colonial...   At the end of the season, the #1 team in each division will play for the Mid Penn crown....   This year Harrisburg will represent the Commonwealth, Cedar Cliff the Keystone, Steel-High the Capital and Shippensburg the Colonial....  Every team outright won their respective divisions, but Cedar Cliff and Susquehanna tied for 1st place.  CC represented the Keystone due to the split they had with Susquehanna, they won by more points....

Games kick off on Tuesday at 7:30pm where Shippensburg and Cedar Cliff will meet at Cumberland Valley HS to see who will go to the Title game....  I don't expect this game to be much of a game being that the Colonial division doesn't prepare a team for any big time competition.  Shippensburg finished the regular season 16 - 6, which was good enough for 1st place in the Colonial but that won them a #16 seed in District playoffs for AAAA....   That's horrible!!!!  They should either switch divisions or drop in classification, if possible.  Ship is led by Wade Mills (14.1 ppg) and Bryce Hastings (12.8 ppg) ....  Mills will kill you inside and loves to draw the contact...  They also get contributions from Teagan Staver and Nick Jacoby....  One good thing they have going for themselves is they know how to win, they just haven't done it on a higher level yet...  Cedar Cliff will be led by lead guard Tyler Hoagland ( 16.6 ppg 7 assist) who is very crafty with the ball....   He just knows how to get the job done while getting others involved as well....   His sidekick Derek Ford can light it up from the outside putting up 14.3 ppg and draining 33 three pointers so far this season....  Owen Shank is the 3rd wheel in this group at roughly 9ppg but he's very athletic and plays with a high motor....   Cedar Cliff beat Ship earlier in the season by 19pts but they are really rolling now....   Prediction - Cedar Cliff by 24pts....

On the other side of the bracket, you have a classic Mid Penn battle between two of the most historic programs in the State of PA in Harrisburg vs Steel-High at 7:30pm at Milton Hershey....   This is a game the community wants to see because of the history and classic battles between the two programs...   You have two legendary coaches in Kirk Smallwood vs Rick Binder and a host of players who all know each other through aau basketball or just local leagues as they grew up....  Harrisburg is led by The new All Time leading scorer in Cougar history Jahaad Proctor at 24ppg and 8rebs ....  He can burn you from the outside or take you inside....   The Holy Cross commit is already a two time All State selection and should make 1st team All State this year making him the 1st Cougar to be a 3 time All State selection....  He's going to be tough to handle but he also has a sidekick in soph Chris Whitaker (13 ppg) who is a strong guard and can hit the mid range jumper with ease....   The next best scorer kinda ranges because it can be any one of the guys at anytime....   6'9 Center Brennen Jackson, lead guard Frank Wilson, freshman combo guard Shaquon Butts-Anderson, 6'3 forward Nebiy Esayas, 6'2 wing Sekou Johnson, lead guard Nasir Johnson and 6'4 Damien Barber all can contribute in major ways...   You just never know which guy will hurt you...   Steel-High is led by sr WG Dee'Quan Fleming at 21ppg and 10rebs....  This young man has one of the highest motors I've ever seen and is always in attack mode....  The McDevitt transfer Jaqui Jenkins found a home at Steel-High as he's putting up 16ppg in his 1st year on the varsity floor...  Jenkins is very elusive and can hurt teams in many ways....   sr Forward Jaki Bowman at 12ppg is the key for Steel-High...  He has a lot of ability and is one of the most athletic players in Central PA...  If he comes ready to play, Steel-High will have a great chance...  Sharp shooter Kavon Jackson, Do it all wing forward Jaron Grayer, freshman lead guard Malachi Young (11 assist per game over last 5 games) and Susquehanna transfer 6'1 combo guard Tyrece Little can all hurt teams at any time....   This should be a good one here but my Prediction - Harrisburg pulls it out by 7 on the free throw line....
