Big day for District 3 Single and Triple A teams

Today starts the 2nd round of States for Single and Triple A teams and these games are incredibly important for the respect of Central PA basketball....   We have only 1 team left in Single A and that's New Hope Academy Charter School....  The Mighty Ants take on Pius X today at 6pm at Hamburg HS as they look to do something that hasn't been done in school history, make it to the Quarter Finals...

New Hope is a dangerous team because you never really know who will hurt you...  They have 7 players (Montrel Morgan, NaGus Griggs, Kareem Oden, Michael Coleman, Tyrece Little, Jermari Murphy and Nykam Beverly) who have scored double figures this year and 4 players who have scored 20 points or more in at least 1 game...   Pius X is led by a dynamic back court of 5'6 Anthony Holmes and 5'11 strong guard Eric Marbury who is the nephew of Ex NBA All Star Stephon Marbury....  If Eric is anything like his dad Eric Marbury Sr., he should be fun to watch....   His dad was a SERIOUS baller coming out of Coney Island....

This game is up for grabs and the first team to 46 points will win this game...    New Hope by 5 points...

Today at 7:30pm we also have 2 of the area best Triple A teams in Susquehanna and Bishop McDevitt who look to move on to the next round....  Susquehanna will take on Pottsville, Lancaster Mennonite takes on Chartiers Valley while McDevitt takes on Allentown Central Catholic....

Susquehanna has what it takes to win this game but will have to establish their dominence in the paint early...  The guards will have to finish the game at the line but guys like Quintin Ward, Joe Marshall and Roman Letterlough will have to dominate in the paint....   The Mack Brothers have to make sure they take good care of the basketball and apply pressure on Pottsville's guards in the half court set...  Sophomore guard Nehemiah Mack (17ppg, 4assist, 5rebs, 3steals) is making a STRONG case for being ALL State as is his older brother Gabe Mack (10.9ppg, 7assist, 3.5 rebs, 3 steals)....  I can see Susquehanna winning this one by 7 points by closing it at the line....

Geoff Groff's Lancaster Mennonite Blazers are making first state appearance since qualifying for the PIAA Class AA tournament in 2010. … Needed to beat Boiling Springs in seventh-place game to advance to states. … Groff (362-264, 26 seasons) piloted Mennonite past Somerset in Friday’s opener behind 19 points from Lehman, 12 from Bair and 10 from Constein. … Blazers have won 14 of their last 18 games. … Good team with terrific balance that can hurt you in a number of ways. … Collazo is most explosive player (can shoot from deep or create and get to hoop) and a really good

rebounder. … Hess runs this thing and makes everyone around him better. Good passer, can beat defenders off bounce and even shoot trey. … Lehman is sneaky quick leaper who can run all day. He'll play soccer at Geneva. … Bair is just a grinder who really works hard to max out limited ability. Nearly made our all-tournament team. … Constein, a consistent perimeter threat, was Solanco’s leading scorer last season before transferring. … Won L-L Section 4 championship and reached tournament semis, losing to Cedar Crest. … One of three Section 4 teams that reached states, with others being Columbia and Lebanon Catholic.  LM has been playing real tough as of late and are capable of making a run in the playoffs...  They are the most balanced team in the playoffs and that can hurt an opponent...  I'm going with LM by 6....

The game of the night just might be going on in Martz Hall as Bishop McDevitt takes on Allentown Central Catholic...  This will be a really fun game to watch as guys like Sensational Junior Milik Gantz and rising star Dyllon Hudson Emory take on Muhammad Ali-Abdur Rahkman, the 6'4 senior guard who is a FLAT OUT STUD!!!!

ACC is undefeated this season and although most of the talk has been about Rahkman and his 23ppg, they have another 1000 point scorer in Jeanlee Baez....  These guys are ranked #3 in the State and have a certain swagger about themselves...  They haven't felt what it feels like to be losing in crunch time so we don't know how they will respond if down to McDevitt....

If MCD is to win this game, they'll have to buckle down on defense and not just run and gun...  Scoring the ball won't be an issue cause when all else fails, they can give the ball to Justin MacArthur who can create his own shot plus shoot the three ball....  Guys like Donte Vaughn, Mark Ray and Caleb Barwin will be crucial because they do all of the little things to help MCD win....  Can MCD hand ACC their first and most crucial lost of the season?  I have to go with ACC by 3 in OT because of the size advantage inside with 6'4, 6'5 and 6'8 ...
