Seems like it took forever to begin but now it's here.... HS basketball should be better than ever in the Mid State and early on there seems to be some very intriguing match ups.... Let's take a look at how the weekend is looking for some of the teams in Central PA....
McDevitt vs Eastern York
When: Friday December 6th
Where: Central York HS
Time: 6pm
If you never had an opportunity to check out Coach Hoke and RUN MCD, free your Friday up right now.... Led by sensational 6'3 jr point guard Milik Gantz, these guys can get up and down the floor and they have MULTIPLE guys who can finish with Dyllon Hudson-Emery, Mark Ray, Justin McArthur, Donte Vaughn and James Williams.... Expect these guys to put up 80 points or more for game 1 but don't be shocked if you see a higher number than that.... I'm going with MCD by 26pts....
Trinity vs York Catholic
When: Saturday Dec 7th
Where: York Catholic HS
Time: 4:30pm
This is an old fashion rivalry between two respected programs in the Mid State... This should be a good game to watch, especially if you want to get an early look at Division 1 prospects Dom Antonelli and Josh Trumpy.... These guys work well together and really know how to play... I think the emergence of freshman Austin Gilbertson will eventually put Trinity over the top cause he'll push Antonelli over to the two guard spot... I'm going with Trinity by 17pts...
Exeter vs Lower Dauphin
When: Friday Dec 6th
Where: Lower Dauphin HS
Time 7:30pm
Lower Dauphin will host the showcase game in the Nothing but Net tournament as they look to shock the world and show the new and improved LD Falcons.... These guys will be ready to rock and roll behind small but crafty pg Luke Rutledge, sharp shooter Kaylor Kulina, rugged wing man Ryan Naccarato and big man bruiser Tommy Bowen.... Should be a good game but LD will pull it out by 13pts.....
Susquehanna vs Berks Catholic
When: Friday Dec 6th
Where: CD HS
Time: 6pm
This game won't be nearly as good of a game now than it will be somewhere in the District 3 playoffs.... Susquehanna is coming fully loaded for this game but Berks will have a really good team this year behind super talented pg Chris Warren, 6'10 Bucknell recruit Nana Foulland and 6'6 versatile forward Conner Jack.... Susquehanna will have The Mack Brothers, Gabe and Nehemiah, leading the way but big man Quintyn Ward and smooth wing man Joe Marshall will do some serious damage in the paint... This will be a great one but Berks will pull this out by 3pts.... Susquehanna can't rely on the jumpshot or they will shoot themselves out this game...
Steelton vs CD
When: Friday Dec 6th
Where: CD HS
Time: 7:30pm
This is a game that is very winnable for CD at this point due to Steelton having 7 - 8 players still on the grid iron.... With that being said, Steelton still will have enough guys to make this game interesting behind the leadership of do it all wing man Anthony "AWright" Wright and super athletic Jaki "Zully" Bowman.... These two guys are some of the top players in the Mid State and can really change a game.... CD will be led by one of the most improved players in the area Aaron Gress who just might average over 18ppg this season... Add in pg Manny Gonzalez with his steady play and wide body AJ Perez, these guys might just be a decent squad this year.... CD may be a little too much for Steelton this early so I can see a 8 pt win by The Rams....
New Hope Academy Charter School vs Capitol Christian Academy (MD)
When: Sunday Dec 8th
Where: CH Flowers HS in MD
Time: 1:30pm
For a small school in the heart of the city in York, these New Hope guys don't mind playing the big boys... The Mighty Ants had an opportunity to play in one of the top tip off tournaments on the East coast so they jumped right on it... Led by returning leading scorer soph Montrel Morgan, these guys know how to get up and down the floor with the best of them... With guys like NaGus Griggs and Michael Coleman on the wings and BULLDOG of a guard Kareem Oden attacking the defense, these guys should make this a very interesting game... 6'1 Freshman guard Tyrece Little is another fine prospect who will give New Hope big minutes off the bench along with 5'5 jr guard "Mighty Mouse" Carlos Serrano these guys will look to add the energy.... Expect New Hope to fight hard but CCA has size, lots of size with 6 guys who are 6'5 to 6'10... CCA wins this one by roughly 11pts....
