GREAT Basketball at the Ms. Kimber Classics in Harrisburg...

If  ever there was a day to see some good high school basketball, today would have been it...  All in one gym the folks in central PA had a chance to see not only some of the top teams in Central PA but also a few in Eastern PA as well....

The match ups were right on point as just about every game played could have gone either way today...  You had teams such as AAA State Contender Susquehanna HS, Chester HS (the most dominent program in PA), Harrisburg HS (Another dominent PA program), Cumberland Valley (who looks really good this year), Carlisle (lots of youth and competes like crazy), Milton Hershey (physical and scrappy young bunch), Coatesville (lots of big body and physical guys), Cedar Cliff (just might be the most efficient team in the area), and New Hope Charter School (Single A contender with lots of youth)...

The day started off with Cumberland Valley topping Milton Hershey as Matt Traminosky was unstopable...  This kid is a 6'4 230lbs southpaw who can flat out finish around the basket....   He's an easy 20 and 10 guy every night and he'll take CV over the top as long as they go inside - out....
On the other court you had Susquehanna knocking off Coasteville as Quynton Ward and Gabe Mack were just too much for Coatesville....  Ward is a freaking monster in the paint standing at 6'7 and 225lbs...   He's also a mean guy and a College coach is going to love him one day....   Gabe Mack is a very crafty and smart pg who can hit shots from almost anywhere...  Very rarely does he turn the ball over plus he defends well....   I think he has Division 1 talent but because he's under recruited, could end up being a really good PSAC guard...  If I'm coaching a PSAC school, I'd be all over this kid...

The 11am games featured Chester playing Carlisle on one court while New Hope played Cumberland Valley on the other...  This is a different looking Chester team as Conrad Chambers is asked to do a lot more this year...  He seemed to struggle a little making the adjustment to being a star player but they always have enough guys to pick up the slack...  Carlisle had some good looking players of their own with the high flying Jordan Dockens attacking from the wing and I really like the combination in the back court of the two freshmen Zion Patterson and Deshawn Millington....  Those two guys are varsity ready and contributed greatly...  Chester ended up with the win but Carlisle faught till the end...   The other court had New Hope and CV and CV jumped out on New Hope building a comfortable 12 point lead by halftime...  After some adjustments, New Hope came out strong in the 2nd half and ended up tying the game up behind great defensive efforts and then much needed scoring by Nagus Griggs but once again Tamanosky from CV was just too much as he finished with 26 points and a victory...

I didn't get a chance to watch the Milton Hershey vs Coatesville game at noon but New Hope and Cedar Cliff had a very competitive game that went down to the wire...  Cedar Cliff pulled this game out by 7 pointsbehind the big inside play of Zack Galic and Cam Paul...  They really moved the ball well and used their inside guys to the max...

The 1pm games were highly anticipated as Harrisburg matched up with Chester in a grueling defensive match up...  This game could have went either way but Harrisburg's pg Dejour Williams turned it up with back to back baskets which then led to a Jahaad Proctor 3 pointer as Harrisburg took the lead and never looked back...  HBG ended up winning by 2 points but these two teams were so evenly matched it was fun to watch....  Williams stock is rising as he is looking really tough from that pg position....  I can see him being a Division 1 scholarship player one day becasue not only does he have the game, but he carries a 3.94 GPA in his junior year as well.....  Not bad at all....  The other game was Carlisle vs Susquehanna but The Indians were just too much for The Herd as Susquehanna won by about 30 points....   With Carlisle being so young, they may have games like that from time to time but when these guys come of age, watch out Commonwealth division.....  Once again Quynton Ward wa sjust too much but also Bud Mack and his brother Gabe had their share in killing the Young Herd....

As the day went on, their were about 2 more games that everyone was waiting to see and that was Harrisburg vs Cedar Cliff and Susquehanna vs Chester....   The Harrisburg and Cedar Cliff game was highly intense as no one wanted to lose this game at all....  CC had their starting pg, Tyler Hoagland, back in action as he was taking the SAT earlier in the morning...  He was defenitely a difference maker as he harrassed some of the guards on Harrisburg and made life hard for them...  Although guys like James Ezell and Dejour Williams would make incredible drives to the basket, no one could stop CC from scoring the ball as well....  After a few techs on Harrisburg bench, Cedar Cliff was able to gain momentum, take the lead and maintain it for the win.....    On the other court Susquehanna was playing as good as they could in the first half as they were up by as much as 12 points at one time but was up by 7 points at half...  For some reason they seemed to try to take the air out of the ball during the early parts of the 2nd half and Chester inched their way back into it....  Not only did Chester take the lead but they ended up winning by about 14 points as well...  Susquehanna had problems putting the ball in the hole as they only scored 8 points the entire 2nd half....   The Mack brothers played a little too relaxed and that really hurts Hanna when they don't take over...

My main man Dave Burman was in the gym and this guy has a WEALTH of information on the basketball industry...  It was a great time talking to him and I look forward to seeing him more in the future...

Stay tuned for the next event that pops up in the area....  We'll be on it...
